Founded in 1988,
the El Dorado Computer Users Group normally holds meetings on the first Monday of the
month.
Formed by computer users from a diverse
background, today the EDCUG remains a group of individuals with varied hardware, software,
and operating system interests. Although more technical in nature than many user groups,
the club welcomes all those interested in how to use a computer as well as those
interested in computing internals.
In the past EDCUG has been actively involved in community
events. The Group maintained a community bulletin board system for seven years. The BBS
allowed for local communication between community residents as well as being networked to
the the world. A large directory of shareware programs was supported by the users. As technology improved, the BBS was replaced by the Internet which provides a wider range of
reference material and more recent files. EDCUG has also supported NET DAY by supplying
materials and manpower to the local schools.
Our meetings always include a program or demonstration
presented by an outside vendor or Group member. Visitors are welcome to attend our
meetings and perhaps join the Group.

Vista SP1 should be released in
mid-March. In February, Microsoft stopped
automatically distributing Service Update KB937287
(prerequisite software for Vista SP1),
following complaints that it had caused system
problems. It contained updates to Vista installation
software, and was "necessary to successfully install
SP1 on all versions of Windows Vista."
